ADS FOR A NOVEL
I spent the COVID years holed up in locked-down London, writing a novel.
It won the Bath Novel Award and was published in 2023 by Hachette UK.
Shockingly, there were no disorderly queues of screaming fans at Waterstones.*
*Even with a cover this fabulous
A surprise on every page
It was a novel packed with history, fantasy and 90s nostalgia.
Rather than a single, reductive pitch, I thought of going for different approach.
Evoking the feeling of flipping through random pages in a bookshop.
And discovering something intriguing on each one.
It got attention.
A little too much.
Within weeks, it had made it to the Amazon Historical Fiction bestsellers, got 200+ reviews on Goodreads, was picked up by newspaper reviewers, indie bookshops and magazine editors.
*3 months on, I was on the BBC pretending to be the heir to Salman Rushdie.
